About the Assistance to Firefighters & Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response grants
The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) and the Staffing for Adequate Fire
and Emergency Response (SAFER) are two distinct grant programs offered by
the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support fire
departments and emergency medical services organizations in the United
States. AFG primarily focuses on helping firefighters and emergency
responders obtain critical equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles,
training, and other resources necessary for protecting the public and
emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. SAFER is designed to
provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest
organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, "front
line" firefighters available in their communities.
